The fishing along the Outer Banks of NC this past week saw plenty of marlin action. Offshore, sailfish, blue and white marlin are head-lining the species being caught. Dolphin and some wahoos are also being reported.
On the Phideaux, we released a 125 pound blue marlin on Wednesday. On Friday, we released three white marlin with a limit of dolphin (60). Also on Friday, the white marlin were ‘balling the bait’ (where they force the bait - squid in this case - to the surface) where one could see them ‘cutting’ on the surface feeding on the squid, as well as about 50 birds (Shearwaters) picking up the scraps. What a feeding frenzy, we don’t get to see this very often.
Inshore fishing is still seeing spanish mackerel and bluefish, along with some flounder and trout.
Marlin fishing will continue to be the hot ticket until the end of Sept, so please give us a call to go offshore to experience these tremendous gamefish! Visit Phideaux Fishing to check on availability - we’d love to take you fishing. Hope to hear from you soon!
Until next week… tight lines,
Fishy Jeff
